Hong Kong Attractions

A day or a short break on Lamma Island is a great experience, but it is far from the only interesting item in Hong Kong. With attractions and sightseeing destinations for all types of interest Hong Kong truely is a world city. 

Schedule a visit to some of these other great places:

Victoria Peak - Ride the cable tram all the way to the Peak Tower, then take the Circular Walk around the summit, or just have a picnic the green park at the top, or eat in one of the many fine restaurants in the Peak Tower and Peak Galleria. website

Lantau - The largest of the islands in Hong Kong, and the one that greets visitors who arrive at the Hong Kong International Airport, there are a host of interesting attractions on the island including the world famed BIg Buddha statue and Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car ride. website

Cheung Chau - A small but very popular outlying island south of Lamma this old fishing village is now a hot spot for seafood and weekend short breaks for Hong Kong residents. website

Mongkok - Once famous as the most densely populated area on Earth this district in Kowloon is now a hot shopping destination for locals, check out some of the great bargains available in Ladies Market or Sneaker Street, or just soak up the atmosphere of real Hong Kong shopping. website

Sham Shui Po - While still down market compared to central Hong Kong this Kowloon district has thrown off it's sordid reputation of yor and is now a mixed residential and commercial area with great shopping and real street feel.  Highlights include the Apliu Street Flea Market but every side street offers something different from big malls to shops that haven't changed in 50 years. website

Temple Street Night Market - Mixing traditions of fortune telling and street performances with modern shopping for clothes, trinkets and gadgets this night time only market is also a great place to eat alfresco as typical Hong Kong style street restaurants pop-up in the evenings allowing you to feast on local foods while watching the crowds of the market walk past. website

Stanley Market - Once the unchallenged go-to tourist market in Hong Kong Island it now has plenty of competition but retains a certain charm particularly for it's location in sleepy Stanley Village and it's juxtaposition to the historic Murray House as well as the many international seaside bars and restaurants that attract an expatriate crowd at weekends. website

Bird Garden - Located right next to the Flower Market this period themed public garden houses traders in Song Birds, but is also a popular place for enthusiasts about bird keeping to just hang out, take their birds for a "walk" and chat with fellow bird lovers. website

Granville Road - Known for many years as the place for excess stock and end of lines from the garment factories of Hong Kong this road has now moved up market and is the official outlet location for many name brands. A must see for fashionistas it is conveniently located just off Nathan Road in Tsimshatsui. website


 

Food and Dining

Because of the heritage of Lamma as a working fishing island there is no shortage of seafood restaurants on the island. Combined with the Cantonese love of fresh seafood and it is not hard to imagine how Lamma has become a go-to place for a seafood dinner.

There a large number of restaurants both at Yung Shue Wan and at Sok Kwu Wan, and both have a main street with a range of seafood restaurants. If Seafood is the main reason for your visit then Sok Kwu Wan will provide all your needs, but if you are interested in a wider range of cuisine and have more time then Yung Shue Wan while give you more choices.
